    What's so great about frame-and-tile systems? Almost unlimited versatility. Design control and creativity. Variety in all aspects of planning. Responsiveness to change and compatibility of older and newer components. You give your workers just what they need and not spend a fortune doing it.

  • Steel frames define Vivo workspaces, provide the foundation for hang-on components, and have a large capacity to house wiring and cable. Tiles can be removed, replaced, and interchanged easily and without tools.

    Make the kind of space you want--enclosed, open, facing in, facing out, shared, private. Choose 90- or 120-degree connectors for footprints that make sense for you.

    Variety of heights. Walls are from 35 to 79 inches high, so that you can achieve different levels of privacy. Stacking frames can raise the height to 90 inches.

    Variety of tile options. Tiles are available in tackable, tackable/acoustic, painted, marker, power/data, open, rail, debossed, and glass versions. Crisp edges provide a tight, consistent reveal.

  • Variety of sliding door storage units, upper and lower, metal or wood. Door choices include painted, debossed, glass, veneer, or laminate. Or, for more variety, switch out secondary doors with any color or type of material for a quick and inexpensive way to refresh the look of a space.

    Vivo means lively and bright. A polished appearance, clean lines, meaningful details. Trim pieces have a thin profile and interlock for precise alignment. Thin-profile stacking windows provide a sense of enclosure and privacy but maintain open views and let in light.

  • Open work surface supports are light scaled, and a horizontal bead between tiles has a reflective surface, making the whole wall seem lighter.

    The concise palette of finishes ranges from light to dark and warm to cool-all chosen to combine harmoniously. Glass, laminates, veneers, and textiles add up to sophisticated choices.

    Proven power. Vivo provides a reliable 4-circuit, 8-wire electrical distribution system.

    Large capacity. Category 6, 4-pair UTP cables: At a 60 percent fill rate, a nonpowered Vivo frame holds 73 in the base, 37 in the top channel, and 37 every 11 inches of frame height. Category 5e, 4-pair UTP cables: At a 60 percent fill rate, a nonpowered Vivo frame holds 95 in the base, 47 in the top channel, and 47 every 11 inches of frame height.

  • Easy installation and change. Cables in the top channel and base are laid in. Multiple routing. Power and data are managed in the base, and frames allow horizontal routing every 11 inches. Multiple access. Power and data tiles provide access at many locations above and below the work surface.

  • Earth-Friendly

    Vivo was designed according to our cradle-to-cradle protocol and is GREENGUARD certified, helping you achieve LEED credits. Vivo components are 69% recyclable. Frames are 100% recyclable steel; a typical workstation has 36% recycled content.

  • All trim, supports, and storage components are powder coated, eliminating polluting VOCs. Stains are water based and contain no solvents, and all wood used in Vivo Interiors is harvested from managed forest resources.

    Most textiles are made of a single material for easier recycling, and many are 100% recycled polyester.

Design Story

  • Introduced in 2006, Vivo carries in its design our 40 years of learning and experience with systems furniture. Developed to advance the thinking behind frame-and-tile design, Vivo takes the frame-and-tile concept to new levels of affordability.

    Vivo was designed by industrial designer Douglas Ball, who also designed My Studio Environments, and whose Clipper CS-1--a self-contained, encapsulated computer workstation--is in the permanent collection of the British Design Museum in London.

  • In designing Vivo, Ball combined his attention to detail with his desire for a fresh look. For example, he placed a horizontal bead, available in four colors, between tiles. "The bead projects out slightly from the tiles," Ball explained. "Its purpose is to reflect light. It's a detail that says to you there is something of interest there." He also developed a unique sliding-door design for the system's overhead units. It echoes the rectilinear appearance of Vivo walls, while giving people a convenient way to access contents.

    Vivo exemplifies the trend toward light architecture. By incorporating optional furniture-style glides and open work-surface supports, Ball lightened the scale of the workstations and promoted air circulation.

  • The Vivo color, material, and finish offering is designed to quietly complement the architectural envelope of a space. Finishes combine harmoniously, so that any combination results in a good choice. A range of accent colors on fabric-covered tiles and painted surfaces adds dimension.

    With Vivo, Ball achieved a crisp aesthetic with characteristic Herman Miller quality, durability, and solid performance. One of his lifetime goals was to advance systems furniture to a new level of human performance--we think he's achieved his goal with Vivo.
